At Foot Balance Technology, we’re on a mission to help people with diabetes stay mobile and ulcer-free. Our work focuses on preventing one of the most serious diabetes complications: plantar forefoot ulcers.
These ulcers, often found under the ball of the foot, can lead to infections, hospitalisations and even amputations. The good news? Most are preventable. The key lies in offloading - redistributing pressure away from high-risk areas using properly fitted footwear and insoles.
But not all solutions work equally. Generic shoes and insoles often fail because they don’t match the unique shape and needs of each person’s foot. That’s why we use a person-centred, evidence-based approach to design footwear and offloading devices that actually work - because they’re built around you.
Here's how we do it

We Start with a Complete Foot and Lifestyle Assessment
Every person is different - and so are their feet. That’s why we begin with a thorough foot and lower-limb assessment, including checks for deformities, neuropathy (nerve damage), circulation and past ulcer history.
We also ask about your daily life. Do you walk barefoot at home? Need formal shoes for work? Prefer easy-to-use Velcro straps over laces due to arthritis? All of this helps us design footwear that fits both your feet and your lifestyle

We Use Advanced Foot Scanning and Precise Measurements
Footwear that fits poorly is one of the biggest ulcer risks. So we use 3D scanning and other advanced tools to capture your foot’s exact shape - length, width, arch and pressure points. If one foot is larger than the other or has a deformity, we can design custom shoes or modify existing ones to suit.
We Customise Footwear and Insole Features for Maximum Offloading
Each shoe we prescribe is selected or built based on your specific needs. Common features include:
- Soft, seamless interiors to prevent rubbing
- Cushioned soles to absorb shock
- Rocker soles that reduce forefoot pressure
- Velcro straps or BOA dials for easy fastening
- Firm heel counters for stability
We pair this with custom insoles that offload pressure from high-risk areas. These often include metatarsal domes, pressure-relief cut-outs and multi-layer materials for comfort and support.
We Measure Results and Make Adjustments
Offloading isn’t one-size-fits-all and we don’t stop at delivery. Using pressure mapping and in-shoe testing, we evaluate how well your footwear is reducing pressure. If needed, we adjust the design - adding softer inserts, repositioning rocker soles or tweaking the fit.
We check for redness, pressure marks or discomfort and listen carefully to your feedback.
We Provide Education and Ongoing Support
Even the best footwear won’t work if it’s not used properly. That’s why we educate you on when and how to wear your shoes, how to inspect your feet daily and when to replace worn-out devices. We schedule regular follow-ups to ensure everything’s still working as intended - and make changes as your needs evolve.
