Meet Dr Sayed Ahmed - Founder of Foot Balance Technology

Founder Image

Foot Balance Technology was founded by Dr Sayed Ahmed, PhD (Pedorthics), a globally renowned Certified Pedorthist and Australia’s first doctoral-qualified pedorthist. His work sits at the intersection of clinical practice, biomechanics, research and advanced footwear technology.

His journey began in Bangladesh, where he developed an early interest in engineering, mechanics and problem-solving. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Footwear Technology at the University of Dhaka in 2006, followed by professional experience with Bata Shoe Company.

Founder Image

In 2009, he moved to Australia to advance his clinical expertise in pedorthics, undertaking specialist training at the Australian School of Pedorthics and Pro-Learn Pedorthics School, becoming a Certified Pedorthist Australia (C Ped AU) in 2011 and later a Certified Pedorthist Custom Maker (C Ped CM Au) in 2015. This training enabled him to work across assessment, biomechanics, and the design and fabrication of custom medical footwear and orthotics.

Sayed completed his PhD at Southern Cross University in late 2023, becoming Australia’s first doctoral-qualified pedorthist. His research focused on diabetic foot care, specifically footwear and insole interventions for individuals at high risk of plantar forefoot ulceration. His work contributed to strengthening clinical understanding of offloading strategies, early intervention and personalised therapeutic solutions in practice.

Founder Image

In 2016, Dr Ahmed founded Foot Balance Technology to translate this research into real-world clinical care. Under his leadership, the clinic has grown into a specialist pedorthic service provider focused on personalised treatment planning, measurable outcomes and multidisciplinary collaboration. The clinic integrates biomechanics, clinical assessment, AI and advanced manufacturing techniques to improve mobility and reduce risk.

Collaboration is central to his work. He contributes to high-risk foot services at Nepean Hospital and St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, and receives referrals from leading Sydney hospitals, including Concord Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, and Westmead Hospital. His role involves working closely with podiatrists, endocrinologists, vascular specialists and wound care teams to manage complex cases.

Founder Image

Dr Ahmed also collaborates with Charles Sturt University and the University of Technology Sydney on research exploring AI-assisted footwear design, digital modelling and 3D manufacturing for medical-grade footwear. These innovations aim to improve precision, accessibility and scalability in patient-specific care.

He has received multiple Awards and Recognition for leadership and innovation in healthcare and regularly presents at national and international conferences on diabetic foot management, biomechanics and digital healthcare innovation.

Internationally, he co-founded Foot Balance Technology (BD) Ltd. in Bangladesh to support training, clinical development and access to pedorthic services in emerging healthcare systems.
